Free 330-space car park opens in Elche
The facility is phase 1 of Elche Town Council's Parking Plan
A new 330-space free car park has opened in Elche, completing the first phase of the Town Hall's ambitious Parking Plan.
The facility is strategically located in Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas in the Toscar neighbourhood to "meet the parking needs of the residents and users of the surrounding facilities, such as the sports and educational centres," explained Councillor for Maintenance and Modernisation of Public Space, Héctor Díez.
Over the last month, the 8,000m2 plot of land has been levelled and paved and lights and signage have been installed. A dozen parking spaces for people with reduced mobility have also been created.
The completion of the car park marks the end of the first phase of the town's Parking Plan, which has seen the creation of more than 1,400 parking spaces across Elche since January at a cost of 280,000 euros.
New parking zones have been opened up in Avenida de Jubalcoi in Altabix-Universidad, Avenida Alcalde Ramón Pastor, Avenida de la Universidad, the Vall d'Uixó area, and Rocío, Formentera and Benijófar streets.
Parking spaces have also been created at the Victims of Covid-19 Garden, next to the IES Sixto Marco school and by the La Hiladora factory.
"The Parking Plan will continue with the opening of new car parks in urban area such as Avenida de la Unesco and in Puertas Coloradas-El Raval, and the next phase will result in 1,000 more spaces," added councillor Diez.
