ARCHIVED - Free shuttle train operating in San Pedro del Pinatar to La Llana and Torre Derribada beaches
San Pedro del Pinatar has begun a free park-and-ride scheme to La Llana and Torre Derribada beaches.
A free park-and-ride scheme launched in San Pedro del Pinatar travelling to the La Llana and Torre Derribada beaches aims to reduce the influx of vehicles travelling to, and parking near, these beaches.
The scheme began operation over the weekend and runs every 45 minutes from 11 am to 14 pm and again from 4 pm to 8 pm - peak periods for the beaches.
This free shuttle service, running from the San Pedro del Pinatar car park, leaving from the free car park by the Repsol garage on the Avenida del Puerto, to the beaches of La Llana and Torre Derribada, ends on August 29.
San Pedro del Pinatar councillor, Antonio Luengo, explained that the beaches of San Pedro del Pinatar "have been experiencing a high number of visitors during summer seasons resulting in cars parking in areas in which they are not allowed".
"The influx in vehicles to these areas causes a drop in enjoyment quality for visitors due to parking issues, traffic jams and noise pollution," the councillor continued.
“Users of the shuttle scheme will be able to leave their vehicles in the car park free of charge,” he concluded.
The scheme is costing 16,500 euros to operate, and is being facilitated by the regional government.
