Los Alcázares works towards a greener future with new compost bins
The town council in Los Alcázares has launched a new campaign to get people recycling food waste
Los Alcázares has embarked on a new mission to improve waste management with the launch of its compost and green waste recycling campaign this week.
The initiative aims to educate residents on the correct use of the new brown containers for organic waste, which will soon be delivered to urbanisations throughout the municipality.
“The aim is to achieve more sustainable waste management and make Los Alcázares a more environmentally friendly municipality,” explained the Councillor for Public Services, María José Benzal.
According to the councillor, the information and awareness campaign is already being rolled out. It should help residents to correctly separate their organic household rubbish from other recyclables, and raise awareness about the growing problem of waste and pollution.
A group of environmental educators will also visit the municipality's educational centres, hotels, bars and restaurants to provide information and resolve queries regarding the separate collection of bio-waste.
In addition to the social media campaign and the posters which have been erected throughout Los Alcázares, residents can call 0034 694 24 15 20 or email quitatelmarron@gmail.com with any queries or questions they might have.
On the website of the Los Alcázares Town Council, readers can also find all the information available on what is and what is not bio-waste or organic waste and how to separate it correctly, and answer a quick survey to check how much they know about the brown container.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to comply with the mandates of Law 7/2022 on Waste and Contaminated Soils for a circular economy, which requires achieving the new objectives of the EU waste directives and the Single-Use Plastics Directive.
