ARCHIVED - Mass vaccination without appointment starts in Valencia from Tuesday
133 new sites for mass vaccination are opening across the region for all unvaccinated people over 12
From this Tuesday September 7, 133 mass vaccination points will be set up in the Valencia region to provide Covid vaccines to anyone over the age of 12 who hasn’t had their first jab without the need to book an appointment first. The move is part of the Health Department’s push to achieve the new national target of getting 90% of the population vaccinated.
As well as the vaccines given out without prior appointment under this scheme, mostly to younger people between 12 and 39 years old, the region of Valencia is also hoping to administer 173,156 doses of the vaccine those who have already booked an appointment.
More than 124,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been set aside for the second jabs and 19,000 for first jabs for Valencians in this age group. The Valencian community also plans to administer 18,807 doses of the Moderna vaccine this week and a smaller number of Astrazeneca vaccines for those needing their second jab. Inmates in local prisons, meanwhile, will be receiving the Janssen vaccine.
Vaccination programme full steam ahead in Valencia
In the region of Valencia as a whole, including Alicante and Castellón, eight out of ten people over the age of 12 have already received both doses of the vaccine and more than 7.1 million doses have already been administered. In just over a month, the community managed to give out a total of 1.6 million vaccines, almost 42,00 doses every day over the summer. That takes the total since the start of the vaccination campaign to over 7.1 million.
And it’s working. Of those admitted to the ICU in the Valencia region, 82.5% have not been not fully vaccinated and of other hospitalisations only 42.2% were fully immunised. Sadly, there are still 52,154 people in the region who have outright refused to be vaccinated.
