Mobile and internet providers across Spain increase prices
Prices in Spain will begin to rise from January 15 by around 3%
In response to unstable inflation, telephone and mobile operators in Spain will begin hiking up their monthly charges this year. Movistar and Vodafone are leading the trend, although all of the other major companies are expected to follow suit.
Movistar
From January 15, Movistar will hike up its costs by 3.1%, which translates into two or three euros extra per month for customers, depending on their contract. While this might seem like a big jump, it’s far lower than the 6.8% price increase applied at the beginning of 2023.
miMovistar Max customers, for example, will see the cost of their package rise from 57.90 euros to 59.90 euros next Monday, while miMovistar Unlimited x4 will go from 120.90 euros to 123.90.
Movistar Plus+ will cost 12 euros from next week, a euro more than before, and pay as you go mobile calls will go up ten cents.
On the plus side, customers who are already signed up to a promotion won’t feel this extra pinch until the existing conditions run out.
Vodafone
Vodafone has increased its prices in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), just as it did last year. Thus, customers will pay, on average, 1.64 euros per month more during the first quarter of 2024.
The operator has informed customers that it is raising prices due to "the continued increase in energy prices, costs, services and suppliers which has generated an impact on the business in a deflationary market context."
Other mobile and internet providers
- Orange raised its prices in March 2023 and to date has not revealed its intentions for 2024. MásMóvil has not shown its cards yet either.
- In December, DIGI reviewed all of its packages and reduced the cost of some while increasing others.
- Customers with Telefónica, Spain’s leading provider, will pay between one and three euros more per month.
