ARCHIVED - Moderna Covid vaccine in Spain withdrawn due to mosquito contamination
The affected coronavirus jab was manufactured in Spain and distributed around Europe
The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products (Aemps) has withdrawn around 765,000 Moderna Covid vaccines after a mosquito was discovered in one of the batches in a vaccination centre in Malaga. This particular serum is produced in Spain by the Rovi pharmaceutical company in the San Sebastián de los Reyes plant in Madrid.
On Friday April 8, Aemps reported the “preventative” withdrawal of a single batch of the Moderna jabs due to the “detection of the presence of a foreign body in a vial,” but sources from the Andalucían health authorities have since confirmed that this foreign body was, in fact, a mosquito. However, official sources have assured that no dose from the affected drugs was administered to patients.

The withdrawn batch (000190A), made up of 764,900 doses, was distributed in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden between January 13 to 14, 2022, but the health authorities in both Spain and Norway insist that there is no health risk for people who have been vaccinated prior to learning of the contamination.
"There is no risk for patients who have received any dose of the batch, so it is not necessary for them to adopt any type of special measure," Aemps reiterated.
