ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update 16th June 2021: active case numbers remain below 500 and incidence rate below 50
The Costa Cálida stabilizes in “low risk” territory with a quarter of the population fully vaccinated
The latest data published on Wednesday 16th June by the regional government confirm that the rate of coronavirus infection in Murcia appears to have stabilized in “low risk” territory, with the 14-day accumulated incidence rate remaining slightly below the threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Wednesday’s bulletin reports a further 66 confirmed cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, 16 of them in the municipality of Murcia along with 15 in Lorca, 10 in Cartagena, 3 each in Alcantarilla and San Pedro del Pinatar and 2 each in Calasparra, San Javier, Torre Pacheco and Totana. The positive results were returned from a total of 2,148 PCR tests, giving a rather higher positivity rate than in recent days of 3 per cent.
The number of Covid patients receiving hospital treatment now stands at 35, having risen from 31 on Monday, but there are now only 10 in intensive care units as vaccination continues to reduce the severity of reported cases.
Perhaps most importantly, as the immunization campaign continues to progress rapidly, the number of known active cases in the Region is still below 500 at 496, a level which has been achieved this week for the first time since July last year, when Spain was still emerging from its first strict pandemic lockdown.
