ARCHIVED - New sustainable mobility plan to combat climate change in Andalusia
Andalucía government has developed a plan which extends until 2030 and aims to greatly reduce carbon emissions by using innovative technology
The regional government in Andalucía has recently made public their Mobility and Transport Infrastructure Plan for the next nine years; until 2030.
The main objective of the Plan is to establish the mobility and transport strategies until 2030 and adopt the necessary measures for Andalucía to contribute towards the reduction of climate change, as well as using more efficient energy sources and innovative technology. The Plan represents a profound change in the infrastructure policies in the region.
Technological changes and innovations which greatly reduce CO2 emissions are a huge part of the Plan and the six main strategic objectives are:
*Improving research and innovation capacities and assimilating advanced mobility and infrastructure technology.
*Improving the mobility services offered to citizens and businesses, while taking advantage of society’s digital transformation.
*Promoting mobility measures aimed at energy efficiency and reducing climate change.
*Developing an infrastructure network for the transport of people and goods that adequately responds to mobility demands, but is also sustainable, resistant to climate change, intelligent, safe and intermodal.
*Advancing regional sustainable mobility.
*Promoting sustainable multimodal urban and metropolitan mobility.
These six strategies make it clear that the regional government’s main concern is sustainability and its effects on climate change, which has already caused notable increases in summer temperatures in Spain in the last few years.
