ARCHIVED - Perimeter closures lifted for 161 Andalusian municipalities
A nice surprise came for many in the Region of Andalucía (Andalusia in English) on Thursday evening when changes were announced which will allow them to move about a little more than in recent weeks
The Andalusian government has lifted restrictions on crossing municipal boundaries for 161 towns and villages in the region as of today, Friday 19 February.
However, another 132 (including Almería and Cádiz provincial capital cities) remain under perimeter closure as their 14-day accumulated Covid-19 incidence rates continue to be over 500 per 100,000 inhabitants. In 29 of them, the rate is still over 1,000 per 100,000 meaning their non-essential businesses must also remain closed.
These measures will be in force for the next 7 days.
The news came unexpectedly on Thursday evening as there was a lot of confusion as to whether restrictions would change or not following announcements from the regional government earlier this week that the so-called ‘committee of experts’ which determines restrictions would not be meeting on Friday. This, however, appears to have been with reference to other restrictions such as closing times and movement between provinces, which are expected to stay as they are for at least another week.
