The queen has died today, Thursday September 8, 2022
Queen Elizabeth II, has died at her home in Balmoral Castle aged 96 after reigning for 70 years.
She was surrounded by her family, who rushed to gather at the Scottish estate across the course of the day after she was pronounced seriously ill.
The Queen served the country as the longest-serving UK monarch in history, and her death will rock a nation where she is much loved and generally seen as a British institution.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
After her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, is now the new King of the United Kingdom and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
