ARCHIVED - Return to normal: bars and restaurants in Javea will lose extra outside space from November 2
Temporary legislation that has allowed businesses in the Marina Alta town to extend terraces into roads and pavements will end next week
Dozens of restaurants and bars with terraces in Javea will lose their extended outside space from November 2.
Since last spring, businesses have been able to spill out onto the streets to compensate for capacity restrictions introduced to combat the spread of Covid.
But from next week, hospitality and catering business owners "will have to return to the occupation they had prior to the pandemic in February 2020," explained the town council, just as is happening in other places like Murcia city.
Capacity restrictions inside hospitality premises were lifted on October 9, which means the extraordinary occupation permits that were granted to businesses in May/June last year "to help their recovery after the crisis have also expired".
Thus, business owners on Arenal beachfront, for example, will no longer be able to occupy space on paseo David Ferrer and it will once again be opened up to residents, visitors and tourists.
As a "gesture" to the businesses that will have to remove the extra tables and chairs, the town council has agreed to maintain the extension until after the national 'long weekend' due to the official holiday on November 1.
