ARCHIVED - San Juan bonfires to go ahead in Los Alcázares
Fires will be allowed from 9 pm on June 23, but the police must be informed of the location previously
The local council in Los Alcázares has decided to allow bonfires for San Juan this year, despite other councils, such as Cartagena, prohibiting the celebration for the second year in a row.
Bonfires will be allowed from 9 pm on Wednesday (June 23) with a maximum of 30 people at each, who must all be wearing masks or face coverings.
However, those thinking of organising a bonfire must inform the Civil Protection and Policía Local services by calling the Emergency Coordination Centre on 968 171 919.
The emergency services have to carry out a prior inspection of the area to make sure that it is safe and located at least 50 metres away from buildings, airline services and vehicles. There must also be at least 100 metres between fires and each bonfire must have its own extinguisher or water point.
In addition, the bonfires can not block any roads or access points and they cannot be located on the beaches of the municipality or on any tarmacked areas nor areas of ecological or cultural value.
The authorities also remind the public that minors aren’t allowed pyrotechnic devices, such as fireworks, unless their legal guardian or another responsible guardian is present.
