ARCHIVED - Spain ditches Covid passports for EU travellers
From June 2, passengers arriving in Spain will no longer need a Covid certificate
Passengers arriving in Spain from EU countries will no longer have to present a Covid passport from Thursday June 2, the Spanish government has announced. The measure has been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and follows repeated calls from Brussels for countries to scrap their last remaining coronavirus travel restrictions.
From today, travellers from EU, as well as those from Norway, Iceland and Switzerland, will not require a Covid passport.
Two weeks ago the Spanish government relaxed restrictions on tourists from non-EU countries such as the UK, but the current measures will remain in place for the time being. Passengers arriving in Spain from Britain no longer need to be fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid, but they will have to present proof of a negative PCR or antigen test.

According to the BOE: “People who arrive in Spain by air or sea from countries that do not belong to the European Union are not considered Schengen associated countries may be subject to health checks at the first point of entry that will include, at least, the taking of temperature, a documentary control and a visual control on his physical state.”
Spain’s Ministry of Health has cited the “improvement of the epidemiological situation” as the main reason for scrapping the Covid passport for EU citizens, and improving data globally “is causing many member states to no longer require travellers within the EU to present Covid certificates or impose other travel restrictions.”
Furthermore, Spain’s vaccination campaign continues to stride forward and the percentage of fully inoculated adults is now well above the European average.
