STOP BIOGAS: Camposol residents submit hundreds of objections to biomethane plant
Hundreds of people of different nationalities unite in Camposol to oppose biogas development

The Neighbourhood Assembly, held in Camposol on August 14 under the slogan ‘STOP BIOGAS’ and organised by the Camposol Neighbourhood Association to discuss the installation of a biogas-biomethane plant just over a kilometre from the residential area, brought together more than 200 residents of different nationalities, exceeding all expectations and demonstrating the great concern that the issue arouses among residents.
According to the AVC press release, after a brief description of the project, presented in three languages (Spanish, English and French), the residents expressed their opposition to the project by supporting the AVC and submitting a total of 458 individual written objections to the Directorate General for the Environment of the Government of the Region of Murcia, in addition to those already registered.
The only incident worth mentioning occurred when, during the question and answer session, three representatives of the company promoting the Biogas Plant project were identified as having sneaked into the meeting without informing anyone of their attendance or introducing themselves.
This incident was condemned by the residents present, who expressed their rejection of the representatives' attempt at deception. They wondered why the company would resort to such unfair tactics, the AVC explained.
The AVC would like to thank all the volunteers, without whose help this Assembly would have been impossible, and all those who attended the event in mid-August for their support and participation.
This meeting does not represent the end of this campaign. It is only the beginning, and the AVC will continue to work with other neighbourhood associations and develop other plans and actions to denounce the inability of the authorities and the company to take into account the devastating effects that the proposed plant would have on its neighbours and the entire municipality of Mazarrón.
