Many of the larger stores in Spain will alter their schedule during Holy Week 2022

Holy Week 2022 is now well under way in Spain and the celebrations are marked by two national holidays across the country: April 14, which is Holy Thursday and Good Friday on April 15. Because of this the normal operating hours of the supermarkets will be subject to change, with many large stores remaining closed during the holidays.

Mercadona

As usual, all Mercadona supermarkets will remain closed for the majority of the Easter holidays. However, the company has decided to open its stores this year on the morning of Holy Thursday, between 9am and 3pm, while all of its stores will close on Good Friday.

Mercadona will maintain normal weekend hours on Saturday April 16 and stores will close as normal on Sunday.

Consum

Consum supermarkets will keep their regular hours from 9am to 9.30pm on Holy Thursday but will remain closed on Friday April 15 and Monday April 18.

Lidl

Lidl’s opening hours are normally from 9am to 9.30pm or 10pm, a schedule that can vary widely across the autonomous communities; in some regions, the supermarket chain opens on Sundays for limited hours while in others it does not.

Because of the great disparity, it is best to check the website of your local store for accurate opening hours over Easter.

Carrefour

Carrefour is one of the chains that usually remain open on Sundays and during holidays, but again, this can vary across communities and the official schedule can be found here.

Alcampo

In the case of Alcampo, which usually opens between 9am and 10pm from Monday to Saturday, customers are once again advised to check the schedule of their local store online, as the company has advised that some operating hours may change during Holy Week.

Dia

Finally, DIA supermarket stores have regular hours from 9am to 9.30pm, Monday to Saturday. During Sundays and holidays, most of the stores undergo changes in hours. Thus, all of them can be consulted at this link.
