Tourist plunges to his death from Mallorca balcony
This is the second balcony fall fatality on the Spanish Island in just two weeks
Tragedy has once again struck the holiday destination of Palma de Mallorca after a 20-year-old tourist fell to his death from a balcony on Playa de Palma on Tuesday May 21.
This latest incident occurred at 8.15 in the morning, although the young man’s friends later told police they hadn’t heard from him after they went at bed at around 3.30am. When police and medics arrived at the scene, they found the young tourist lying on the ground. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save his life.
Few details have been released, but the police have revealed that the man had been drinking heavily earlier in the evening and he wasn’t wearing any shoes or trousers when the accident occurred.
Officials have now launched a full investigation to uncover the causes of the fall.
On May 7, a 24-year-old German holidaymaker fell 12 metres to his death at a nearby hotel in Arenal. According to news reports in his home country, the tragic accident occurred just hours after he had arrived in Spain.
It appears that the tourist found himself locked out of his room after a night of partying and tried to scale the facade of the apartment block to get in.
To address the shocking number of similar accidents in tourist hubs like Magaluf, the Calvia council has partnered with the British Foreign Office to roll out a public safety campaign advising UK visitors of the dangers of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.
