Tourist rescued after jumping into Magaluf sea under the influence of drink and drugs
The holidaymaker had to be restrained after displaying erratic and aggressive behaviour during a dramatic seaside rescue

The Guardia Civil confirmed that the incident took place at Magaluf beach in the municipality of Calvià, Mallorca, and involved a man who was spotted struggling in the water after leaping in following heavy consumption of alcohol and drugs.
Local police officers from Calvià were first on the scene after receiving a call about a swimmer in distress. The man had managed to reach the nearby islet of Sa Porrassa, from where he began calling for help. He later attempted to swim back to shore but quickly got into difficulty.
Using binoculars, officers were able to pinpoint his location, while a member of the Guardia Civil patrol ran to a nearby hotel to fetch a lifebelt. His colleague used a torch to guide the rescue from the beach.
One of the officers then stripped off his uniform and entered the sea, swimming towards the man’s cries. After around five minutes, he reached the tourist, who was in a distressed state and showing signs of hypothermia. After several attempts, the officer managed to secure the lifebelt around him and pulled him safely back to shore.
Once on the beach, the man was placed on a hammock while emergency services were called. Officers at the scene reported that he smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. His behaviour was erratic, shifting from bursts of euphoria to crying fits and a vacant stare.
Shortly after being rescued, he began shouting at officers and bystanders in an aggressive manner. Local police had to then restrain and later arrest him due to the threat he posed to himself and others.
