Two arrested after high-speed chase through Orihuela Costa
The dramatic chase ended when the criminals ploughed into a Guardia Civil car in La Zenia

Two men have been arrested following a dramatic high-speed chase through the busy streets of Villamartín and La Zenia on Monday May 18, after their car eventually slammed into an official Guardia Civil vehicle bringing the pursuit to an abrupt end.
It all started at around 11:30am when a Guardia Civil patrol from the Citizen Security Unit in Torrevieja spotted a vehicle failing to give way at a roundabout. When officers tried to identify the occupants, the driver put his foot down and fled at speed.
What followed was a dangerous pursuit through some of the busiest streets in the area, with the fleeing car mounting pavements and forcing pedestrians and other drivers to scatter to avoid being hit.
The chase continued out towards the outskirts of La Zenia, where officers moved to block the road given the serious risk to public safety. The driver ignored the blockade and ploughed head-on into a Guardia Civil vehicle, bringing the chase to an end.
One officer was injured in the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment. The two occupants of the car, aged 30 and 34, were unhurt and were also taken to hospital for a routine medical check before being brought before a judge.
A search of the vehicle quickly revealed why they'd been so keen to get away. Officers found 1.5 kilos of marijuana and a small amount of hashish inside the car.
The pair now face charges of drug trafficking, reckless driving, resisting and disobeying law enforcement officers and property damage.
