ARCHIVED - WATCH: Two-metre long shark shocks bathers off Spanish island coast
The suspected blue shark was sighted in the shallows off the coast of Ibiza, Spain
Local residents of Ibiza and holidaymakers alike were stunned to see a disorientated 2-metre-long shark floundering in the rocky shallows of Calo des Moro on Monday morning, May 16.
Believed to be a ‘tintorera’ or blue shark, the big fish appeared to be disorientated as shocked onlookers filmed it swimming in the cove right by the shore in the popular holiday resort of San Antonio, and one photo even shows a brave bystander reaching out his hand towards the shark.

Ibiza-based expat businessman Martin Makepeace posted an incredible close-up video on Twitter and wrote: “Small shark stranded in shallow waters right now in Calo des Moro, Ibiza.”
He added in a subsequent tweet: “Sad to see. Two metre shark stranded in San Antonio waters.”
Dozens of people questioned the health of the shark and Mr Makepeace posted an update a short time later, explaining that the authorities arrived after about an hour and towed the fish back out to the open waters.
“Hopefully it will make a full recovery,” he wrote, adding: “You don’t see many of these.”
Just last week, lifeguards in Mallorca ordered panicked bathers out of the water when they spotted another blue shark circling just off the shoreline at Cala Mondrago.
In October last year, three neighbouring Moraira beaches in the province of Alicante were closed off after a large shark was spotted by a diver.
