ARCHIVED - Wildfire in central Murcia forces evacuation of municipal swimming pool and several houses in Librilla
The fire in Murcia joins dozens of others that have decimated the Spanish countryside during this heatwave
Firefighters from the Consorcio de Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento in Murcia were called out to fight a fire in Librilla on Monday afternoon, July 25.
The wildfire broke out in an area of scrubland and dry grass in the municipality in central Murcia, in an area very close to the public swimming pool and several summer homes.
The centre of Murcia, including Molina del Segura and Archena, was the hottest place in Spain yesterday, with temperatures registered of up to 46ºC.

The fire, which broke out at around 7.30pm, forced local police to evacuate the swimming pool and the houses that could be at risk. In addition to the fire brigade, a forestry brigade from Murcia and a helicopter from the Directorate General for Public Safety and Emergencies, based in Alcantarilla, were also involved in extinguishing the fire.
2022 has already been the most destructive year for wildfires in Spain since records began, and forest fires continue to burn in Andalusia, Tenerife, Castilla y León, Valencia and many other parts of Spain.
