ARCHIVED - Above average temperatures continue this week: Alicante weather Sept 12-15
Thermometers will top out at 35ºC in parts of Alicante province on Monday September 12
Alicante province has experienced its warmest first eight months of the year since 1950 and in June thermometers topped out 3ºC higher than usual. In fact, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), since the beginning of May the Valencia Region as a whole has "persistently recorded temperatures much higher than the normal average", and the heat looks set to persist over the next few days.
The average temperature in August was 26ºC (1.9 above average ), in July it was 25.9ºC (also up 1.9), in June the average reading was 23.9ºC (3ºC higher than usual) and in May it stood at 18.7ºC ( up 2.2ºC).
It remains to be seen how September will fare, but for the next few days at least, there's unlikely to be any great let-up in the heat, especially at night when the mercury will reach in excess of 25ºC in the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa regions of Alicante province, particularly in Alfaz del Pi, Altea, Benidorm, Benissa, Calpe and Javea.
Monday September 12 will get off to a cloudy start, with intervals throughout the day accompanied by a rise in minimum temperatures and light east and southerly winds which will be more intense on the coast.
