ARCHIVED - Illegal Covid certificates being sold through Telegram in Spain
In addition to charging for the service, the scammers have access to huge amounts of personal data
The National Institute of Cybersecurity (Incibe) has warned of yet another scam in Spain on Monday September 27, this time involving the popular social network Telegram. The León-based organisation has been alerted to several groups offering users help in illegally obtaining false Covid certificates and negative PCR tests at a considerable price.
According to the authorities, in addition to paying over a sum of money, those trying to obtain the forged documents will have given a large amount of personal data to the scammers which can be now used for nefarious purposes. Anyone taken in by the ploy has been advised to delete the conversation and block the contact on Telegram, after taking screenshots of all the correspondence.
Victims of the con who have already paid for the illegal service should contact their bank immediately and provide any details of the scam artists to either the State Security Forces or directly to Incibe through the Office of Internet User Security.
