ARCHIVED - BREAKING NEWS: Spain extends travel restrictions for unvaccinated third country tourists for two weeks
The measure prohibiting unvaccinated UK holidaymakers from entering Spain has been extended until May 15
The Ministry of the Interior has extended the restrictions on unvaccinated travellers from third countries, including the United Kingdom, with the publication of the Official State Gazette on Saturday April 30. This means that tourists travelling from Britain to Spain and associated Schengen countries will not be permitted entry for non-essential reasons unless they are fully vaccinated or can show proof of having recovered from Covid in the past six months.
The Spanish government has decided to uphold the ban on non-essential travel for unjabbed third country citizens for another two weeks, until Sunday May 15 “for reasons of public order and public health due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19.”
The announcement details that “the temporary restriction on non-essential travel from third countries under Order INT/657/2020 ends on April 30, 2022, so, since the Council Recommendation has not changed, it is appropriate to extend its effects. On this occasion, the extension period will be for only 15 days.”
“This order will take effect until 12:00pm on May 15, 2022, without prejudice to its possible modification in response to a change in circumstances or new recommendations by the European Union."
The news is just the latest blow in what is proving to be a disappointing bank holiday weekend for Brits, as the UK and Spanish governments have failed to reach an agreement in the driving licence discussions, meaning that from May 1, UK driving licence holders who have been resident in Spain for more than six months will no longer be allowed to drive.
Criteria for entry into Spain
- Travellers from the UK who are over the age of 18 must have proof of a full vaccination schedule or a valid Covid recovery certificate. It’s important to note that if your second jab was administered more than 270 days ago, a booster vaccination is now required for entry
- Teenagers aged between 12 and 17 years who are unvaccinated can travel to Spain, but must either have a recovery certificate or a negative PCR test carried out 72 hours before departure
- For children under the age of 12, no vaccinations or Covid tests are required
- UK passengers who have an NHS Covid Pass do not need to complete a Passenger Locator Form (SpTH form).
