ARCHIVED - Spain extends restriction of non-essential travel from third countries until April 30
The safety measure has been extended by Spain on several occasions already
The government in Spain has on Tuesday March 29 announced its intention to extend the temporary restriction of non-essential travel from third countries, including the UK, to the European Union and associated Schengen countries.
In practice, this means that tourists travelling from Britain to Spain must be double jabbed or be able to show proof of having recovered from Covid. Teenagers from the UK aged between 12 and 18 who are not double jabbed will need to present a negative coronavirus test to enter Spain on holiday.
The extension, which has been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), is aimed at minimising the ongoing risk to public health as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The EU directive developed on June 30 2020 which established a list of third countries whose residents were exempt from travel restrictions to the EU has not changed, but officials reserve the right to alter this list before the current decree expires on March 31.
The restriction to non-essential travel will now remain in place until April 30 2022.
Holidaymakers arriving in Spain from this week will be able to take advantage of the new relaxed monitoring system which came into place on March 28, which stipulates that asymptomatic patients or people with mild Covid no longer have to self-isolate.
