British man shot in Santiago de la Ribera left paraplegic
The victim and shooter are both thought to be involved in criminal gangs
A 27-year-old British man is paraplegic after being shot in a suspected “settling of scores” in Santiago de la Ribera, Murcia, on Monday evening, November 18.
The victim was ambushed near his home while returning with his wife. The hooded assailant fired four shots, two of which struck the man in the knee and side.
He was initially treated at Los Arcos hospital before being transferred to the ICU at Virgen de La Arrixaca hospital in Murcia, where he remains under Guardia Civil protection for security reasons.
Doctors are now evaluating his transfer to a specialised rehabilitation centre, but say the attack has left him paraplegic.
The attacker fled the scene in a car which was later found burnt out in a tunnel on the AP-7 motorway. Investigators believe the shooter was picked up by another vehicle, which is still being sought. The Guardia Civil continues its search for the perpetrator and the second car involved in the escape.
This violent act, which occurred on Calle Alférez Moreno at approximately 8.30pm, has shocked the local community and remains under active investigation.
