British tourist seriously injured falling from Mallorca balcony
The 25-year-old plunged from a second-floor hotel room at the Spanish holiday resort
A young holidaymaker from the UK has been rushed to hospital in Mallorca after tumbling from his hotel room balcony. The 25-year-old was “seriously injured”, according to local sources, when he plunged from the second floor of the three-star Haiti Hotel on the island’s north-eastern coast in the bay of Alcudia.
Unconfirmed reports from witnesses claim the young tourist had consumed drugs before he fell from a height at around 12.30am on Monday morning, July 10. He was rushed to the intensive care unit at Son Espases Hospital in the capital of Palma suffering from multiple broken bones, including a shattered pelvis and legs.
One medical source at the scene described the situation: “He was [in] very serious [condition] when he was taken away in an ambulance from the scene.
“He fell from a second-floor balcony and his multiple injuries included a broken pelvis as well as broken legs.”
Even though it’s still early in the summer, several several fatal balcony falls involving Brits have been reported on the Spanish islands in recent weeks. Despite multiple warnings from both the Spanish and British governments, one foolhardy UK holidaymaker last week was filmed scaling a narrow ledge right at the top of his metres-high apartment building in Ibiza.
The youngster would have faced almost certain death if he had lost his footing but luckily, after about 15 minutes hotel security guards were able to pull him to safety.
In other news, another British man was arrested this weekend hastily trying to board a flight from Mallorca airport after his girlfriend reported to police that he raped her in the bathroom of their shared hotel room. He was locked up overnight and will appear in front of a judge sometime on Monday July 10.
