ARCHIVED - Crime falls in Alicante province: 41.9 offences per 100,000 people
There are currently more officers policing the streets of Alicante province than ever before

The crime rate in Alicante province fell notably in 2021, reaching the second lowest level by ratio since 2010 as the number of officers policing the streets reaches an all-time high.
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the rate stands at 41.9 criminal offences per 100,000 people, 17 points lower than the 58.7 offences in 2010.
This drop in reported and investigated criminal activity has been attributed in part to the pandemic and anti-Covid mobility restrictions, but also to the fact there are now 5,097 Guardia Civil and National Police officers employed across the province, the highest figure ever.
In terms of tackling crime, the percentage of incidents and offences successfully cleared up or dealt with between January and September 2021 increased to 41.9% – the highest level since 2010 when 29.3% of all criminal cases were closed with a positive outcome.
And last year, the rate of arrested or investigated 'offenders' per 100,000 criminal offences reached 271 – significantly higher than the rate of 176 a decade earlier.
