ARCHIVED - Free guided tours of Calpe Old Town in English and other languages
Tours of Calpe Old Town in the Marina Alta, Alicante province, will run from July 14 to September 15.
Free guided tours of Calpe Old Town, in a number of languages including English, will resume from Wednesday, July 14 to September 15, offering a fantastic opportunity to learn more about its history and charm.
The tours will take in the Forat a la Mar, part of the old wall and gateway to the Moorish quarter, the Torreó de la Peça ancient defence of Calpe, and the picturesque plaça dels Mariners, next to the Fishermen's Guild, which pays tribute to the municipality's seafaring roots.
As in previous years, the visits will take place twice weekly, at 8.30pm on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the chance to have the tour conducted in English on request in advance by calling the tourist office on 965 836 920/965 838 532 or by emailing turismo@ajcalp.es
There will be a maximum of 20 people per group and each walk will last about an hour, following all recommended safety and hygiene measures, and meeting at the Casa de Cultura (House of Culture) at 8.15pm.
Last year, just over 1,200 people participated in the guided tours of the Old Town - 850 people in Spanish, 111 in Valencian, 167 in French and 73 in English.
And while most of those who took part came from the Valencian region, the tours also attracted visitors from Madrid and the Basque Country, with just over half discovering Calpe for the first time.
