ARCHIVED - Hundreds of British expats in Torrevieja remember fallen soldiers on Remembrance Day
The Vega Baja town's large British community was joined by Spanish neighbours in a Poppy Day tribute to victims of war

Hundreds of British expats in Torrevieja paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the First World War during an annual Remembrance Day service and wreath-laying on Thursday November 11.
The commemorative event was once again organised and led by Torrevieja Branch Poppy Appeal President, Gill Burden, with the support of veterans of the British Navy and Air Force, and was attended by town mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and Councillor for International Relations, Gitte Lund.
A mass in remembrance in honour of "all victims of war and terrorism", was held at the Church of the Immaculate, followed by a minute's silence and moving wreath-laying ceremony in the Plaza de la Constitución in commemoration of Armistice Day.
The mayor emphasised the "importance of Poppy Day and similar events for the British population based in Torrevieja, highlighting the active participation of this community in all cultural and social activities".
