Improved 24-hour emergency care in Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada
Round-the-clock healthcare has been strengthened at Pilar de la Horadada and La Loma clinics

Torrevieja Health Department has come under fire over the last couple of years for a lack of organisation and staff, and more recently following the hospital's transfer from private to public management.
To try to ease the burden on Torrevieja Hospital's accident and emergency department, patients were encouraged to use La Loma health centre, and people in Pilar de Horadada were advised to use emergency care facilities at the local clinic.
However, this posed problems due to staffing, so Torrevieja Health Department has made "a significant organisational effort to strengthen the continuous care points at Pilar de la Horadada and La Loma, centres that have the largest urgent influx of patients", according to a statement.
This means the PAC (Continuous Care Point) at Pilar de la Horadada health centre will be now staffed by two doctors and an two nurses for 24-hour emergency care, doubling previous personnel levels.
La Loma health centre now has an additional doctor and an extra nurse at the PAC, increasing from two to three doctors and two to three nurses, who will be responsible for emergency care.
The staff are not new recruits, but rather have been pulled from other departments within the health department.
"The increased physical presence of professionals is possible thanks to the efforts of the department's doctors and nurses, and improvements in on-call duty guarantees the interconnection of the centres and the networking of the work teams," said Torrevieja health bosses.
"The additions make it possible to offer better urgent care to patients and their families, reduce delays in care and favour a better approach to the patient. It is no easy task to find doctors at a time like this, we are working on a long-term project that allows us to be attractive to attract new professionals," added Primary Care manager, José Cano.
