Is this the most hated place in Spain?
A survey has determined the most loved and most hated regions of Spain
Spain is made up of 17 autonomous communities, as well as the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, each with its own style, traditions and customs. Every region has something different to offer but, as is common across the globe, a certain rivalry exists to prove which community is the most popular.
Now, a detailed survey carried out by Electromania has revealed which is the best loved – and most hated – autonomous community in Spain.
1,600 people participated in the study and answered a series of questions about the country, rating each community on a scale of 1 (unpopular) to 10 (popular).
The most hated region in Spain
The survey showed that the most desirable destinations are in the north of the country, with Asturias scoring an impressive 7.9 and coming in as the best loved place in Spain.
Galicia, Euskadi and Navarra occupy the second, third and fourth spots while Aragón completes the top 5 list.
Catalonia has taken 10th place with a rating of 7 behind the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community, Cantabria and the Canary Islands. Surprisingly, Madrid only made it to 14th with a score of 6.6.
The Spanish capital was pipped to the post by Andalucía (6.9), La Rioja (6.6) and Castilla y León (6.6).
Falling out of favour much lower down the list is Extremadura, with a score of 6.5, and Castilla-La Mancha takes position number 16 at just 6.2 points.
Getting to the business end of the ratings and with another surprise, the Region of Murcia landed in the top 3 most hated communities in Spain.
Among other Spaniards, Murcia is often viewed as a backward sort of place and is the butt of many jokes, but anyone who has ever been there will know it is a sunny seaside province with a lot to offer.
Finally, the dubious badge of honour of ‘least-loved place in Spain’ is actually jointly awarded to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which both scored a disappointing 5.5 points.
