Madrid-Barcelona Ouigo train stuck in tunnel for over 5 hours
The 461 passengers had to wait with no air conditioning, rationed food supplies and broken toilets for hours on end

Around 461 passengers were trapped in the Spanish train they were travelling on for more than five hours this Wednesday June 5 due to a technical breakdown.
The train left the Madrid-Puerta de Atocha train station at 2.15pm and was due to arrive at Barcelona-Sants at 4.45pm.
However, the train, which was run by newcomer to the rail operator scene, Ouigo, stopped in the middle of the tracks of the Serra Llarga tunnel in Roda de Berà (Tarragona) and was stalled there for nearly six hours.
As well as making them annoyingly late, passengers complained that they were unacceptably uncomfortable, since staff on the train apparently refused to serve any more food and drink at first.
There was also the suggestion that the situation could have been dangerous since the air conditioning on the train was not working properly. Temperatures in Tarragona on that day were above 30ºC.
What’s more, Ouigo staff then began “rationing supplies,” according to one infuriated passenger, and there was not enough water for everyone on board. There was “no toilet paper” and some of the toilets were backed up, unable to flush correctly, while some passengers took to smoking in the toilets.

Eventually, another train came and reached the damaged train to tow it to the Camp de Tarragona station, where another Ouigo train was able to take the passengers to Barcelona, their final destination, well after midnight.
