Mercadona opens new energy efficient store in Orihuela Costa
The supermarket with large car park is located next to the AP7 tollbooths in La Zenia

Spain's largest supermarket chain, Mercadona, has opened a new 'efficient' store in La Zenia, Orihuela Costa, based on a new company model that provides excellence in service and optimises the ease of shopping, with an array of improvements that benefit both customers and staff.
The 1,700m2 store in Calle Turmalina, just across the road from Zenia Boulevard Commercial Centre, features a number of new sections, including a 'Ready to Eat' zone where customers can enjoy ready-to-eat dishes served up in containers made from natural materials.
There's a rest area with tables and chairs, ergonomic and lightweight shopping trolleys, wider shopping aisles and a new entrance design with double glazing to prevent drafts.
On an environmental level, measures have been taken to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% compared to the conventional shop model, through improved insulation, an automated LED lighting system and the installation of 533 solar panels.
The supermarket is open from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 9.30pm, and has a large car park.
Mercadona now has 96 supermarkets in 41 municipalities in Alicante province, employing almost 5,800 people, with plans to hire more than 1,000 people for the summer season.
In 2022, customers spent more than 766 million euros in these stores alone.
