Norwegian Club Costa Blanca celebrates its tenth anniversary
The club is one of the oldest organisations for foreign nationals in the Marina Baixa municipality
Vicente Arques, the mayor of l'Alfàs del Pi, paid a visit to the Norwegian Club Costa Blanca on Thursday morning, March 7, to mark the tenth anniversary of its current headquarters, located on Avenida de la Constitución.
Established in 2020, the Norwegian Club Costa Blanca is one of the oldest organisations of residents of other nationalities in l'Alfàs, with nearly 800 members. The club offers a wide range of activities, including golf, petanque, hiking routes, yoga, meditation, painting, singing, Spanish classes, games, visits to wineries, wine tastings, knitting circles and more.
Mayor Arques emphasised the rich cultural diversity of l'Alfàs del Pi, which boasts a multicultural population of almost one hundred different nationalities. The Norwegian community, in particular, has been an integral part of the municipality for more than half a century, with 2,500 registered Norwegians and an estimated 8,000 living in the area.
The mayor praised the Norwegian community for its strong sense of solidarity and support, highlighting the presence of two Norwegian educational centres, two Norwegian residences for the elderly, a Norwegian church in l'Albir, and the only Volunteer Centre that the Norwegian Government has opened outside its borders.
He also mentioned the unique tradition of celebrating Norwegian National Day every May 17, which has become a symbol of the harmonious relationship between the two cultures over the past 50 years.
The Norwegian Club Costa Blanca plays a significant role in promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding, providing a platform for residents to engage in social and recreational activities, Mr Arques pointed out. The club's dedication to fostering a spirit of community and inclusivity aligns with the values of l'Alfàs del Pi, he added, making it an important asset to the municipality.
