A freight carriage derailed and hit a passenger train in Barcelona, Spain
A driver has died and 85 people have been injured, nine of whom required hospitalisation, after a collision between two trains on Monday afternoon, May 16, in the Sant Boi de Llobregat area of Barcelona.
Official sources confirmed that the accident occurred around 6pm, when a freight train derailed at the station entrance, smashing into the cabin of a passenger train that was leaving the station at the same time.
The President of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), Marta Subirà, explained that the emergency services evacuated around 100 passengers from the trains, while officials are working to determine the cause of the derailment on the Sant Boi tracks.
