ARCHIVED - Six-year-old British boy dies days after parents found him floating in Mallorca hotel pool
The child from Belfast was rushed to hospital in Mallorca in a "critical condition" on Thursday June 2
A British boy, 6, has died in hospital days after his parents found him floating face-down at a four-star hotel in the resort of Sa Coma in Mallorca.
Corey Aughey from north Belfast spent three days in intensive care after being rushed to Son Espases Hospital in Palma on Thursday June 2, just a day into the family holiday.
According to reports, Corey's parents lost sight of him for a few minutes before he was discovered unconscious and the alarm was raised at about 5.30pm. Paramedics carried out CPR for 30 minutes and managed to revive him before he was taken to hosital in a "critical condition".
Sadly, the "fun-loving" boy scout passed away on Sunday and the National Police have launched an investigation into what happened but has not commented publicly on the case other than to confirm that they are awaiting more details.
Tributes have since flooded in for the young Rangers fan. A close family friend wrote: “He was the best wee boy, always smiling, full of love and fun. Thank u all again for your prayers, he will forever be our angel.”
A fund has been set up to bring Corey's body back to Belfast that has already raised more than £12,000.
The tragedy comes just days after a 19-month-old toddler drowned after falling into a swimming pool at a villa in the Alicante village of Aigues near Benidorm.
Freddie Joseph Briggs was pulled unconscious from the water on Wednesday May 25 and three days of mourning was declared by the local council.
Two weeks earlier, former Royal Navy soldier Paul Lebihan, 25, originally from Gateshead, drowned whilst trying to rescue his dog from a river in Callosa d'En Sarriat, 15km from Benidorm. Three other people lost their lives in the same river within the space of a month.
