Torrevieja gives the green light to new hotel complex near the N-332
A long-dormant plot near La Mata that's been sitting empty since 1986 could finally be developed under new planning proposals

A plot of land near La Mata that has been sitting undeveloped since it was first earmarked for tourism use back in 1986 could finally be built on, after new planning proposals were submitted to Torrevieja's city council.
The site, known as the "Las Maravillas" area, covers just over 12,000 square metres and sits between Avenida de los Europeos, Avenida de los Suecos and the N-332 dual carriageway. Around 8,000 square metres of that is designated for building, with the rest set aside for roads and green space.
The plans propose a mix of hotels and tourist apartment blocks, something that wasn't previously permitted under the existing planning rules for the site. To make the most of the space, the proposal reduces the building footprint but pushes the permitted height up from four storeys to ten, meaning taller, slimmer buildings that free up more ground-level space for communal areas and leisure facilities. If approved, the development would represent the first time the plot has actually been built on despite being part of Torrevieja's urban planning framework for nearly four decades.
The new plans include the internal road network, green areas and access points from Avenida de los Europeos towards the N-332 needed to bring the site properly into use.
