WATCH: Rorqual whales caught on camera off the coast of Denia
Eight of the enormous cetaceans have been spotted in the waters of this Alicante municipality
The coastal town of Dénia has once again become a hotspot for an incredible natural phenomenon as rorqual whales have been spotted off its shores. Every year, these majestic creatures choose the waters of the northern Costa Blanca as their migratory pathway, and this year is no exception.
Onlookers were treated to a breathtaking spectacle as eight rorqual whales made an appearance on Thursday June 20, with six whales in the morning and an additional two in the afternoon. The whales were seen right in front of the port mouth, providing an incredible opportunity for observers to capture stunning images of these gentle giants.
Rorquals are the largest family of baleen whales and include some of the most well-known species such as the blue whale, the fin whale, the sei whale, the minke whale and the humpback whale.
Dénia has solidified its position as a crucial waypoint on the whale migration route, attracting the attention of both scientists and nature enthusiasts alike.

The Environmental and Marine Service of the Dénia City Council is dedicated to the conservation of these marine mammals and encourages anyone who spots a fin whale or other rorqual whale off the coast to report the sighting by phone. The service can be reached at 0034 616 947 579.
The whale migrations in Dénia are not limited to a specific season, but rather occur throughout the year, with an intense peak during the months of June and July. This phenomenon transforms Dénia into a whale-watching paradise in the summer.
