ARCHIVED - Woman who faked a robbery and tried to frame her ex-boyfriend in Elche has now been arrested
Police officers from the province of Alicante discovered that the woman and her family members had taken the reportedly stolen pieces of furniture to nearby rubbish containers
Officers from the Policía Nacional in the municipality of Elche have detained a 20-year-old woman, of Spanish nationality, for falsely reporting a home robbery supposedly carried out by her ex-partner.
At the beginning of April, the young woman reported that her home had been broken into and various items had been stolen, including several pieces of furniture, a tablet and a mobile phone. She also alleged that the lock on the door into the property had been broken.
In addition, the woman informed police officers that she suspected that her ex-boyfriend, who is also the owner of the property, was the culprit.
While carrying out the investigation, officers in Elche noticed several contradictions in the woman’s initial story. They discovered that the damage to the front door was caused by firemen, who the 20-year-old had called to the property previously when she and her children had been trapped inside.
Officers also found out that the items of furniture, which had been reported stolen, had been moved to a nearby rubbish container by the woman and several other family members.
After finding these inconsistencies, the young woman was located and detained by the police and after giving another statement at the police station, she has now been released with charges pending.
