ARCHIVED - Woman gives birth on Spanish metro with help of staff and a passenger
The new mum went into labour on her way to hospital and ended up giving birth at Ciutadella station in Barcelona
A woman who went into labour enroute to the hospital ended up giving birth at a Barcelona Metro station with the help of three employees and a fellow passenger who turned out to be a health inspector.
At around 10.45am on Wednesday June 22, heavily pregnant Cristina was on her way to Hospital del Mar to give birth, but as she got off the train at Ciutadella station her contractions became much stronger and closer together, and she asked three Metro service staff for help.
With time of the essence, there was no alternative other than to set up a makeshift delivery room in one of the cabins.
Seconds later, another passenger approached the staff after dropping her mobile phone on the tracks, and upon learning about the mum-to-be's imminent arrival, told them she was in fact a health inspector and offered to help with the birth.

Little Angel made his impromptu arrival and mother and son were subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance in "perfect condition", according to Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB).
Sharing the heartwarming story on social networks, TMB also congratulated the parents, Cristina and Jesús, on the birth of their son, as well as the three employees - Yolanda, Rubén and Vanesa - for their rapid response to the emergency situation.
Coincidentally, employee Vanesa's son turned 20 on Wednesday, which means he now shares a birthday with little Ángel.
