ARCHIVED - Yellow warning for wind and coastal phenomena in Alicante: December 2 to 4
Force 7 winds and rough seas are forecast in the Valencia region until mid-morning Friday
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for high winds and coastal phenomena in the north of Alicante province and south of Valencia until Friday December 3.
Prevailing winds from the west and showers following the arrival of a front during the early hours of Thursday morning have led to an Aemet warning today for wind and rough seas.
The strongest gusts could reach 80 or 90km/h in the north of the Valencia region, while in the north of Alicante province and south of Valencia province, waves of up to three metres can be expected.
According to Aemet, the front will leave showers as it passes from the north to the south of the region, with snow unlikely to fall at altitudes below 1,300 metres. There may be light snowfall in the Valencia Community by mid-morning on Friday, but by midday the front is expected to move southwards, leaving behind drizzle.
Temperatures will drop as a colder air mass arrives behind the front on Friday, and snow hasn't been ruled out in the north of the region which will experience strong winds.
In the centre and south of the region, the winds will ease from midday onwards.
Moving into the weekend, Saturday will again get off to a blustery start but a slight rise in temperatures is expected, approaching 20 degrees on the coast of the region and between 10 and 15 degrees in the north and inland.
A cold front is likely to shape conditions on Sunday and Monday, with wind and potential showers.
