ARCHIVED - Worker dies in traffic accident at metal strike in Cadiz as police presence ramps up
A man on a motorbike crashed into a lorry parked on the Cádiz picket lines this morning
Today marks the seventh day of a general strike by metal workers in the Andalusian province of Cádiz, and has brought the sad news of a fatality related to the strike.
A man died when the motorbike he was riding collided with a lorry at the entrance to the port of Algeciras, which was at a standstill due to traffic cuts because of the picket lines. Sources from the Guardia Civil reported that the motorcyclist, a port worker, died at around 8.35am after colliding with the container lorry.
Since the early hours of Monday morning, there has been a traffic jam in the port of Algeciras, with queues starting at 5.40am to get into the car parks.

The metal worker strikes have been notable for the clashes between police and demonstrators almost from the very first moment, and there has been a reported increase of heavy-duty police vehicles and riot squadrons on the streets of many towns in the province.
Unions have not set an end date to the strike, meaning they are likely to continue until negotiations between employers and the unions have come to a resolution.
