Town hall opens application period for new benefit to encourage childbirth

For the first time in Orihuela, financial aid is being made available as a way to encourage residents to have children.

This measure is designed to offer economic support to families towards those first expenses that arise with the arrival of a new member of the family.

The amount of the aid is €1,000 per birth, and in the case of multiple births, this sum will be granted for each child born.

“We want to accompany the families of Orihuela at one of the most special moments of their lives, the arrival of a child,” said the councillor for families, María Carmen Portugal.

This first tranche applies to babies born last year and the application period, which opened yesterday,  closes on November 4.

Eligibility requirements

This aid is available to mothers or people who have legal custody of the newborn, subject to certain conditions. They must:

• Be registered as a resident of Orihuela on the padrón for at least three years
• Have given birth between January 1 and December 31, 2024
• Still be on the padrón at the moment the aid is approved
• Be over 18 years old
• Have a bank account in their name
• Be up to date with their tax and Social Security payments

Presenting applications

Applications should preferably be presented online via the Sede Electrónica “Tramitar solicitud” option.

They can also be handed in in-person to the Registro General (General Registry) of Orihuela town hall.

The aid will be granted in the order that applications have been received until all the funding has run out.

It is compatible with other benefits, unless the specific rules indicate otherwise.
